1990 Les Paul Standard – Custom Shop Edition – Heritage Cherry Sunburst
A particularly striking and unusual Gibson Les Paul Standard from 1990, featuring a beautifully figured flame maple top and Gibson’s early “Custom Shop Edition” designation.
Dating from several years before the Gibson Custom Shop was formally established in 1993, these early Custom Shop Edition instruments were produced in relatively limited numbers and represent an interesting period in Gibson’s history. This example carries the small gold “Custom Shop Edition” decal to the rear of the headstock and we believe this was a limited run for US dealer Sam Ash.
Finished in a rich Heritage Cherry Sunburst, the two-piece figured maple top is superb, with pronounced flame and figuring that changes considerably depending on the light and viewing angle.
The guitar retains its period-correct specification, including open-coil double cream humbuckers, Gibson Deluxe tuners, ABR-style bridge, stop tailpiece and gold speed knobs.

The guitar presents extremely well for its age, with the deep cherry back and neck complementing the highly figured top beautifully. It is in excellent condition with minimal signs of use.
These early Custom Shop Edition Les Pauls are quite different from the later Historic/Custom Shop instruments. Produced before Gibson established the dedicated Custom Shop operation, they were essentially specially selected or limited-production Gibson USA instruments, often distinguished by higher-grade tops and particular specifications.
A superb early-'90s Les Paul in its own right, but the combination of the figured top, Custom Shop Edition designation and period Gibson case makes this a particularly interesting example.
As with all of our vintage and used instruments, the guitar has been carefully inspected prior to sale.
Worldwide shipping available. The guitar will be professionally packed, fully insured and shipped with tracking.
