Developed in close collaboration with George Lynch, the Mr. Scary Mod is a custom-voiced evolution of the original Hot Mod V2—designed to deliver significantly more gain without permanently modifying your amp.

If you want to supercharge a classic Marshall (and many other valve amps) while keeping everything completely reversible, the Mr. Scary Mod is the answer.

George initially tried the standard Hot Mod V2 in his own Marshall and loved the concept, but wanted more control and a voicing tailored specifically to his playing style. The result is a unique version built just for him—and now available to you.

Instead of the Hot Mod V2’s two-position gain switch, the Mr. Scary Mod features a fully variable Gain control, ranging from true unity gain all the way to blistering, saturated drive. All the clarity, articulation, and low-noise performance of the original design remain intact.

A dedicated Deep switch has been added to shape the low end. Engage it for added bass weight and fullness—perfect for thinner guitars—or switch it off for a tighter, more focused low end with enhanced clarity.

The Mr. Scary Mod adds an adjustable, 100% pure tube gain stage on top of the cathode follower V2 position, increasing sustain and harmonic richness while preserving note definition and pick attack. It’s responsive, dynamic, and extremely musical.

Each unit is hand-built and wired in the USA, one at a time, using high-grade components and carefully tuned by ear. Tube complement is an ECC81 (12AT7)in the first position and an ECC83 (12AX7) in the second, allowing the mod to clean up beautifully as you roll back your guitar’s volume—then explode into aggressive, singing gain when you dig in.

This is a gain stage designed to be played, not just dialled in.
