1974CX 1×12 Extension Cabinet – 2011 – Celestion G12M Greenback

A superb 2011 Marshall 1974CX 1×12 extension cabinet, designed as the matching companion to the Marshall 1974X handwired combo and built with classic vintage-inspired Marshall styling.

The 1974CX is a compact open-back 1×12, giving it a wonderfully open and room-filling character. Compared with a closed-back cabinet, the open design provides a looser, more natural low end with plenty of air around the notes, making it particularly well suited to vintage-style Marshall circuits.

At the heart of the cabinet is a 12" Celestion G12M Greenback, one of the definitive British guitar speakers. Rated at 25 watts, the Greenback is known for its warm midrange, woody character and smooth, musical breakup when pushed.

The combination of the G12M and open-back enclosure makes the 1974CX particularly expressive and responsive. Clean and lower-gain sounds have plenty of dimension and sparkle, while turning up a valve amp brings out the compression, rich mids and softened top end that make vintage-style Greenbacks so addictive.

Finished in traditional black Marshall covering with period-inspired grille cloth, white piping and the classic Marshall script logo, it's a great-looking cabinet that works equally well as the extension cab for a 1974X or with a variety of lower-powered Marshall heads.
